Detox Cleansing Treatments

About Detox/Cleansing Treatments

Detox treatments vary as there are different methods used to cleanse, filter and rid the body of toxins and parasites. There are several different detox strategies listed here that target the different organs/systems of the body… liver, kidneys, lymphatic system, lungs, blood, skin and bowel. In addition to cleanses there follows an overall adaptation of dietary habits that support the wellness and proper cleansing of the human body.

General Order of Detox Treatments

Cleanses usually follow in this order when one is doing an all body cleanse. It’s important to do it in the “right” order. It’s important so as one cleanses, one is not overloading another organ/system to be cleansed or for the cleanse to be effective overall. Also wait at least a week between each separate cleanses before starting another. It is recognized that some of the following cleanses do incorporate two or more of the cleanses at once. One example is the Candida Albicans Detox. This cleansing program utilizes the combined cleanses of Candida, Colon and Parasite/Pathogen cleanses because they are interrelated in the body and have a synergestic effect. It is a good place to begin in this series of treatments although it is one of the longest treatments.

Detox Cleanses and Fasts Posts

  1. Colon Cleanses This can be the Candida Albicans Detox, the Mucoid Dissovling Cleanse or a simple colon cleanse. One should read these posts and choose from the three recommended cleanses.
  2. Kidney Cleanses  Some simple to follow fasts and cleanses.
  3. Parasite Cleanses C.A.D. M.D.C. and other cleanses and fasts.
  4. Liver Cleanses Examines liver health and lists liver cleanses.
  5. Blood Cleanses Examines blood health and lists detox and cleanses.

Once undertaken the other cleanses may be started 4 weeks into the C.A.D. treatment assuming that the detox/Herxhiemer Reaction is mild or non-existant. Should the C.A.D. program not seem a good fit for an individual then the general order of the body cleanses listed above should be followed.

Herxheimer Reaction

Warning: One may suffer a worsening of certain symptoms during the use of many treatments and especially during cleanses. This is a short-term detoxification reaction in the body. This reaction is known as the Herxhiemer Reaction. This is a natural response to toxins and pathogens that are released when parasites, fungi, viruses, bacteria and other pathogens  are being effectively killed off and the body does not effectively eliminate the toxins quickly enough.

This does not mean the detox or treatment is ineffective, in fact just the opposite is true. This often causes one to stop the treatment in question which leads to a setback in healing.

Common Herxhiemer Reactions

  • Flu-like symptoms.
  • Headaches.
  • Joint and muscle pain, body aches.
  • Sweating.
  • Sore throats.
  • Rashes and itching.
  • Nausea.

Usually the reaction lasts a few days and is mild. The best approach is to continue treatment and help the body in eliminating toxins with the methods listed below. If the reaction is too severe cutting back on the treatment can lessen the symptoms while allowing the healing to continue.

Methods of Relieving Herxheimer Reactions

  • Drink plenty of filtered water.
  • Add vitamin C to regimen.
  • Add vitamin E to regimen.
  • Add more proteases (something like Purify, Repair, Peptizyde, Peptidase Complete, Vitalzym, ViraStop, Wobenzyme, etc. between meals…like 3-4 capsules every 3-4 hours).
  • Epsom salts baths help with calming and detox.
  • Plenty of rest and sleep.
  • Take Activated Charcoal which helps absorb toxins.

The reaction is usually over in a few days and again is a sign that the toxins and pathogens are being cleansed from one’s body.

This is a sign that the treatment is working and helping to restore one’s body to health.

Any serious symptoms such as cardiac irregularity; breathing difficulties; chest, lung or throat constriction; significant swelling; or other severe symptoms should be given immediate medical attention.

Other Useful Detox Programs

The skin is probably the detoxification system of the body with the largest surface area. As we sweat, we excrete heavy metals and other waste materials out of the body. You can initiate sweating by doing light exercises for about 20 minutes 3 times a day. After exercising, you can sit on a low heat sauna or under low heat infrared lights to encourage more sweat. Make sure that you consume adequate amounts of fluid while sweating to avoid dehydration. Electrolytes are also lost during the sweating process; they can be replaced by drinking grape juice, prune juice and vegetable juices.

Detox Bath

Detoxification of your body through bathing is an ancient remedy that anyone can perform in the comfort of their own home. Your skin is known as the third kidney, and toxins are excreted through sweating. A detox bath will assist your body in eliminating toxins, as well as absorbing the minerals and nutrients that are in the water.

  • Prepare your bath on a day that you have at least 40 minutes available, as the first 20 minutes are said to help your body remove the toxins, while the second 20 minutes are for absorbing the minerals in the water.

For Detox and to Induce Sweating

  • Fill your tub with comfortably hot water, using a chlorine filter if possible.
  • Add 2 cups or more (up to 16 lbs) of Epsom Salts, aka magnesium sulphate. This can be purchased in 3 lb bags or 1 lb cartons at discount stores in the garden center, or in the pharmaceutical area, or ordered from garden centers in 50 lb bags. It’s very inexpensive.
  • Add 1 to 2 cups or more of Baking Soda, aka sodium bicarbonate. This is said to help eliminate the chlorine in the water, as well as soften the water, and help the body to absorb the magnesium. Large bags can usually be found in the swimming pool chemical area, or the boxes from the bakery aisle will work fine.
  • Know that Epsom Salts and Baking Soda bath is a detox bath in, and of itself, other items can be added for further effects. Ground ginger, or fresh ginger tea both work quite well. The ginger is heating to the body and may cause your skin to turn slightly red for a few minutes, so be careful with the amount you add. Depending on the capacity of your tub, and your sensitivity, anywhere from 1 tablespoon to 1/3 cup can be added. Most people sweat profusely with the addition of the ginger, and if you wrap your body in a blanket immediately after getting out of the tub, you can continue to detoxify through perspiration for another couple of hours. This is especially beneficial if you are trying to rid the body of a bug of some sort, like the flu, or a cold.
  • Add aromatherapy oils; this is optional, but there are many oils that will help the bath to be a pleasant and relaxing experience, such as lavender, or ylang ylang, or those that will assist in the detoxification process such as tea tree or eucalyptus. Around 20 drops is sufficient.
  • Swish all of the ingredients into the tub, and soak for as long as you can, preferably 20 minutes. You should start sweating within the first few minutes, and the longer the better, up to 20 minutes. If you feel too hot, start adding cold water into the tub until you cool off. Sit in the cool water another 20 minutes, if you can. When you get out of the tub, move slowly and carefully, as your body has been working hard and you may get light-headed or feel weak and drained.

It is a good idea to rehydrate one’s self after a detoxing bath. Drink plenty of fluids especially those with electrolytes.

For a Topical Treatment Bath

Instructions are basically the same. Differences are as follows.

  • Some opt for a pre-bath rinse… of baking soda and salt or the use of sulfur soap or Dr. Bronner’s Lavender or Pepperment Castile soap lathered on allowed to stay remain on one’s body for ten minutes before rinsing. Rinse tub thoroughly before bath.
  • Liquid enzymes such as KleenGreen, Kleen Free, Ecovie or a similiar home-brewed may also be added to the bath.
  • Plan on extending the length of time in the bath… from one hour up to two.  Some take one bath and soak while allowing the water heater to heat the second bath… rinse between separate baths. Rinse tub thoroughly as well. May take one than one bath in a day.
  • 5% or 9% White vinegar (acetic acid) may be added to bath. Start with a dry tub and the baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) add enough vinegar to maximize the bubbling effect of the combination. Usually the same amount…ie. 2 cups Baking Soda and 2 cups Vinegar.
  • Useful carrier oils to add in addition to the essential oil or oil blends such as Thieves oil  are organic coconut oil and organic olive oil. The coconut oil has caprylic acid and antiseptic and antifungal properties and allows the other oils to deeply penetrates the skin. The olive oil has oleic acid and coats the skin. This may help suffocate parasites. The two combined has a synergistic effect as caprol.
  • Individual bath additives may be slowly increased as experience dictates. Up to double the basic ingredient measurements.

Note: some ingredients are more likely to cause skin irritation… such as some of the ‘hot’ or medicinal essential oils. Exercise caution when using.

Plan on owning this protocol. It is a peaceful break in a hectic schedule of treatments. This is an excellent time to listen to music or to read a favorite book. Much success has been reported with gently dunking one’s head and allowing the bath water to cover ears, hair and face. Of course the bath additives may burn eyes or irritate sinuses so the use of cation is recommended. This should be a daily treatment while symptoms are heavy.

Note: Treatments and protocols such as Baths and Laundry may use more hot water than one’s hot water heater is set to heat. The temperature gauge on the water heater may be adjusted to the hottest temperature possible. This will accommodate the extra usage of hot water. ALWAYS use caution when using hot water. Test temperatures by hand and use cold water to adjust to a comfortable level especially when bathing or preparing baths for children. Hot water will scald skin in only a few seconds.

Benefits of Saunas

Another way to detoxify your body with sweat is with a visit to the gym or spa. A sauna is defined as a hot dry bath. While in a sauna, you will sweat profusely. This enables your body to expel toxins through sweat. Although one trip the sauna will result in sweat, you are encouraged to make multiple trips. In fact, many recommend a five-day trip to the sauna. Your gym or spa will have information regarding the recommended or required length to stay inside.

When using a sauna to sweat or detoxify the body, it is important to drink lots of water. You will sweat more than you will with exercise. If you do not drink enough water, your body will start to dehydrate, which could lead to additional health complications.

As stated above, you can use exercise and a sauna to force toxins to be expelled through your body by way of sweat. This is an easy approach to take, especially when compared to fasting; however, there is still the toxin factor. If you truly want to cleanse your body, you need to modify your diet. This diet modification should be permanent, but your body can benefit from even a temporary change. In addition to increasing your water consumption, increase fiber consumption. The elimination of caffeine and foods with unnatural additives is recommended.

Although sweat will allow your body to expel built-up toxins, this process is not necessarily considered a full body cleanse. That is why a diet modification is recommended. By making the switch to organic foods, you stop putting toxins into your body. This gives it time to work on expelling and repairing the damage caused by older buildup.

Warning: I do not advocate the use of public spas or saunas nor the receiving of massage while one has lesions. Morgellons may or may not be contagious but care to curb exposure especially when there is a presense of open lesions should always be taken.
